I spend most of my time in perspectives, so when I want to add a new action, I find the best way to do it is to switch to Projects, choose the appropriate project, clic the project title, and press Enter. That’s more clicks than I’d like to have to do. Is there a better way to enter new actions without them disappearing while I’m in the middle of entering them? On the iPhone, entering new actions is a much better experience. Am I just doing something wrong?
Have you tried using the Quick Entry?

don’t forget that you can type in your first action and then press control-return to create a new action beneath the current entry. You can also press shift-return to create a new action above the current entry.
