It bothers me when an item/task has become obsolete but the only way to remove it from the system is by deleting it, whereas I’d like to keep the item (for search purpose for example)
I see some competing products do offer this functionality.
Would be great to see it in Omnifocus too.
In Omni parlance, that state is Dropped
, though it can currently only be applied to projects or tags/contexts.
There has been talk of enabling it to apply to actions as well, so email in to vote for the feature request.

Hey Scotty
“(…) to apply to actions as well, so email in to vote for the feature request(…)”
Not sure what the link is supposed to do/go to, but it does not work for me.
Thank you

If it’s not working, you can send an email to omnifocus@omnigroup.com

send an e-mail to omnifocus@omnigroup.com to vote for a feature request.
Meanwhile, what you can do is creating a tag/context name dropped
, set it to on-hold and whenever you want to drop a task, just set its context to dropped
(or add the dropped
tag to it, if you are on OF3) and then mark the task as complete.
Voilà! You have a way to track your obsoletes ;-)
In any case, I suggest you follow Scotty’s/Ryan’s/Wilson’s suggestion and email it in so @SupportHumans can log your feature request :-)
