Clean-up happens too quickly for me

I have a perspective called “Next” that is sorted by due date, and then by deferred date within each due date.

Let’s say that I’m making changes and want to change both the defer date and due date. I use the tab key to bounce from one field to the next. Unfortunately, my Omnifocus always skips over the defer date, so I have to change the due date first. I change it, and then the systems immediately re-sorts everything and I have to go “find” the item that I’m changing so that I can also make other changes. For example, there are times when I also want to change the defer date.

My questions are these:

  1. I don’t like it that the cursor doesn’t automatically stop on the defer date field and instead skips over it. Can I change that somehow?

  2. I’d like to stop the system from automatically re-sorting things right away. I’d like to do it only after I hit enter or something like that… at least wait until I’m done making changes to the item. Is there an option for me to change the system behavior for this?

I’ve been using Omnifocus for many years and I love it, but wish I could change these two things. Thanks!

I also feel that re-sorting is sometimes too aggressive, and I’d prefer an option to trigger it only when I press the Clean up button, or switch perspective.

The tabulation behavior you’re experiencing doesn’t match mine, though: for me the defer date is included in the Tab cycle respecting the fields order on screen.
I wonder if it has something to do with how the perspective visualisation and fields are configured; for reference, here’s how it (Focus 4.4 on Sonoma 14.6.1) is working for me:

Apologies for the Italian UI, but the order of elements should be the same in English. Hope this helps.
