Custom perspectives + parent/child tasks

Hi -

I’m looking for advice on how to preserve parent/child task relationships in custom perspectives. Currently, my custom perspectives are losing the structure between parent and child tasks, showing everything as a long flat list instead.Specifically, I’d like to know:

  1. What settings or options should I check in my custom perspective configuration to maintain the hierarchical structure? Current sorting screen shot below.
  2. Are there any particular grouping or sorting options that help preserve parent/child relationships?
  3. Should I be using a specific layout type (e.g. Project, Tag, Custom) to keep the hierarchy intact?
  4. Are there any known limitations or bugs related to preserving task structure in custom perspectives?
  5. Does anyone have examples of custom perspective configurations that successfully maintain parent/child relationships they could share?

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m using the latest version of OmniFocus Pro on Mac. Thanks in advance for your help!

Just had a minute. Try something in the area of…
Structure = Flexible
Preserve hierarchy = on

OR

Structure = Organized
Organize = Individual Actions
Group actions by = Ungrouped
Sort actions by = seems not to matter
Preserve hierarchy = on

Hi - thanks for the response. That looked better, but what I didn’t realise is that view then also removes the projects grouping too (which I failed to mention in OP).

So ideally I’d like to see my tasks in my custom perspective (which is just availability=available, tagged with any of ‘parent tag’, grouped by project, and with parent tasks/subtasks keeping their structure.

I can achieve the first bit with: Organized, Individual actions, group by: project, but the the parent/child structure is unavailable because the ‘preserve hierarchy’ option is disabled when I select ‘group by project’.

The only way I can see to preserve hierarchy is to leave ‘group actions by’ as ungrouped, which means I no longer can group by project.

Thanks

You know the hierarchy groups by project, because the actions of a project are displayed within the project. Right? Maybe I misunderstood.
