Feature Suggestion: Allow Due Soon to be customized on a per-action basis.
Rationale: I have actions that can’t be done until a particular time on a particular day. (e.g. Entering grades at the end of the day Friday.) Maybe in the Inspector there could be a field that shows the Due Soon default date, but the user can enter a different Due Soon date with the same choices as the default choices (e.g. 24 hours, 2 days, 5 days, 1 week, etc.).
Consider using the Defer Until field to specify the date and time you want these actions to become available.
If you have an action deferred to Friday at 9 a.m. and due on Friday at 3 p.m., the “Due Soon” setting is essentially irrelevant as the action won’t become available until six hours before it’s due.
On a side note, I recommend allowing a two-hour buffer between the due date/time specified in OmniFocus and the actual due date/time. For example, if I commit to doing something by Friday at 5 p.m., I may make it due Friday at 3 p.m., giving me a two-hour buffer.
It occurs to me that with the new date filters, if you wanted to, you could use tags (or similar) to mark these different “categories” in some way, if the main objective is filtering for perspectives. 🤔
Thank you. I was skeptical about using Defer Until because I need to use Repeating actions. (which I didn’t state in my original post…sorry). I was pleasantly surprised to find that–when marking repeating action as complete–Defer Until dates roll over so that the Defer Until date always has the same lead time compared to the new Due Date.
