OmniFocus 4.7 Test Builds Now Available

Hello, it would be very nice when you could specify in the forecast perspective that the entry or postponement refers to the planned date.

Thanks Michael

We’re closing in on this month’s release of 4.7! Here are test notes for the last few builds.

OmniFocus 4.7 for All Platforms — August 7, 2025 Test Builds

All Platforms

  • new - Forecast — Forecast counts can be configured to only count due items. See Settings > Notifications.

  • new - Forecast — The new summary dots Forecast date tiles draw more legibly when a tile has a lot of due tasks. The dots can also be hidden if desired: see Settings > Notifications.

  • updated - Built-In OmniFocus Help — Updated the built-in reference manual, and fixed some issues with searching that help.

  • updated - Forecast — Date tiles in the Forecast sidebar no longer use colored backgrounds and text to indicate due and overdue items (since this state is now communicated with the summary dots).

  • updated - Schedule — The schedule menu commands to adjust deferred, planned, and due dates will no longer adjust other dates.

  • fixed - Forecast Widget — The Forecast Widget’s Future tile correctly counts items with notifications when those are enabled in Forecast.

  • fixed - Mutually-Exclusive Tags — When a mutually-exclusive tag replaces a tag on an item, it now assumes the same position in the tag list as the replaced tag rather than being added to the end.

  • fixed - Mutually-Exclusive Tags — Fixed an issue where a tag group’s behavior was not immediately applied to the tags within that group when the change was synced to other devices.

Mac

  • updated - Help Buttons — Fixed the help button for Software Update, and added a help button for Migrate Database.

  • updated - Settings — Updated the layout and labels for some settings.

  • updated - Archive — Archiving old items now automatically migrates the archive database to match the capabilities of the main database.

  • fixed - Crash — Fixed a crash encountered when restoring to a pre-migration database while mutually-exclusive tags (which weren’t supported in the old database format) were visible.

iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro

  • new - Forecast — When dragging items onto a Forecast date, you can now hold Command, Option, or Shift on a paired physical keyboard to have the drag adjust the Due, Defer, or Planned dates on those items rather than the default date assignment specified by Settings > Organization. (This was already possible on Mac, but it’s new to other platforms.)

  • fixed - Crash — Fixed a crash encountered when using “Reschedule” with multiple items when some of those items weren’t configured to repeat. (OmniFocus no longer offers to “Reschedule” unless all selected items repeat.)

OmniFocus 4.7 for All Platforms — July 31, 2025 Test Builds

All Platforms

  • new - Forecast — New summary Task Dots in Forecast date header communicate how many items are due, due soon, or have been assigned a due date on a given day.

  • updated - Planned Dates — Planned Date field/Inspector is now always displayed between Defer Date and Due Date by default.

  • fixed - Forecast — New items created via keyboard shortcut in grouped Forecast outline now respect default date setting.

  • fixed - Forecast — Corrected label of “Past” Forecast grouping.

  • fixed - Repeats — “Catch up automatically” repetition setting is now represented in TaskPaper format.

Mac

  • fixed - Help — In-app documentation is now indexed when searching Help menu.

  • fixed - Inspector — Group Behavior Inspector is now displayed immediately when “Show All Inspector Fields” is enabled.

  • fixed - Migration — Database Migration UI is no longer horizontally re-sizable.

  • fixed - Planned Dates — Fixed a bug that allowed Planned Date field to be enabled in Quick Entry prior to database migration.

  • fixed - Planned Dates — Planned Date column is now included in CSV export.

OmniFocus 4.7 for All Platforms — July 28, 2025 Test Builds

All Platforms

  • updated - Documentation — Additional updates and refinements.

  • updated - Forecast — “In Forecast: Add to Set the…” date setting is now available cross-platform, and applies to all default date assignment behavior in Forecast (previously, this setting only applied to dates re-assigned via drag & drop on Mac).

  • updated - Forecast — Summary counts in Forecast now count all displayed items (previously, counts only included due items).

  • updated - Settings — Updated additional terminology and capitalization for consistency.

  • fixed - Repeats — Reduced potential for inadvertent repeat type changes by improving reliability of repeat inspector.

Any estimated date for the stable release? Unfortunately due to my account set up, I haven’t been able to use the beta version.
Really keen to use it when launches!

The specific roadmap timeline for OmniFocus is:

  • 4.7 (August): Planned dates, mutually-exclusive tags, and improved repeats
  • 4.8 (September): OS 26: Liquid Glass, Foundation Models, iPad windows, and general compatibility updates
  • Later this year: Kanban view

(So, yes, that means 4.7 will be shipping by the end of next week!)

My iPhone updated to 4.7; but so far nothing on macOS.

Is that me being too impatient?

Second: I have an old iMac, which I’ve all but decommissioned. In case there’s an instance of OF 4.6.1 on that and/or a synching database, how do I get to it and delete it, please?

Thanks in anticipation…

I just got it on both Mac and iOS. Loving it!

When I upgraded to 4.7, I was given a list of devices that had synced with OF in the last 21 days, and was told that they were all upgraded to 4.7 and I could migrate the database. if you haven’t synced that Mac in more than 3 weeks, you should be good to go.

(FYI, my upgrade alert on MacOS appeared this morning, Boston time.)

Thanks, Brian!

Yes that all happened for me, a little later than I expected. Great step forward isn’t it.
