If you’re running OmniFocus v2.8.3 or earlier and try to check for software updates, you may encounter an error message of “The operation couldn’t be completed.”
The above error message is due to a known bug with our software updater in earlier versions of the app. This issue has since been fixed in later app versions (OmniFocus v2.9 and later), but you’ll need to install the update manually from our downloads page.
If you drag the existing version to the Trash, you’ll be able to place the newer version into the Applications folder and use it from now on. Doing so won’t touch your data, which is stored in a different location. Apologies for the inconvenience!
