Hi Don,

Yes, there’s a much more convenient way to select a default font in the workflow you’re describing.

  1. Select the Object tool in the toolbar.
  2. Before creating your object, use the Inspector to set the font you prefer. This specifies the default font for all new objects created using this tool in this document.
  3. With your new default font specified, create your object.

Bam, 14 months after I post, I stumble onto your response. :)

This works, thanks! Would be nice to have this in the FAQ.

Some of us create documents that use the same font. Forever.

So an easier, more intuitive way to set default/global font would be nice.
