Trying to exclude a project folder using sidebar selection - what am I doing wrong?

I have a perspective for looking at projects on hold. I also use templating (and keep my template projects on hold), but don’t want to show those in my “On Hold” perspective. I’ve had a perspective for a while that only selects the top level folders in my project hierarchy (using Sidebar Selection) that aren’t templates, filtering to show only projects “On Hold”.

Sometime in the last few months OmniFocus (MacOS) started showing my template projects, even though they are not in the sidebar selection. Did something change? Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Some specifics on my perspective settings:

  • Use project hierarchy is selected
  • Layout is set to “Use preferences”
  • Filtering is set:
    • Any status
    • Remaining
    • Any duration
    • On hold
  • Sidebar selection has every top level folder selected, except for my top level Template folder

Have you tried using focus instead of sidebar selection?

That worked - thank you. Guess I need to go back to the docs to see why sidebar selection didn’t work.
