Action assigned to a project shows in Changed perspective, but not in the project

macOS 14.8.7; OF 4.8.11 (v185.15.0)

I found an action and modified it (added notes), but I could not find that action in the project it is assigned to. I could find it in the Changed perspective, but when I ran ‘open in Project’, the project didn’t open (the Changed perspective windows remained in focus).

When viewing the project, View is set to show everything; I have no search criteria in effect; the project hierarchy is fulled expanded; I do not have another project with the same name.

I quit and reopened OF, but no success.

In the Changed perspective, I manually created a new action (same title (except with an ! at the end to distinguish), etc.), and assigned to the (same) project, it still didn’t show up when viewing the project.

I then cut the action and pasted it into the project, and that worked.

I don’t recall this ever happening before. Wondering if it was a corrupted action.

Has anyone experienced this?

If it happens again, I’ll rebuild the database (which I should have done), and submit a trouble ticket if that doesn’t work.

Is the item still in your Inbox? Items in the Inbox can be tentatively assigned to a project without actually leaving the Inbox (and moving to the assigned project), depending on the Organization setting for cleaning up Inbox items.

(The default setting is to clean up inbox items that have a project assigned, but if you’ve changed the setting to require a tag then it might still be waiting for that tag.)

Most likely not having a tag assigned (with my behavior for cleaning up Inbox items set to having both a project and tag assigned) was the culprit. I’m completely versed on that in terms of inbox cleanup behavior, but when I created a test item in the Changed perspective, it didn’t occur to me that the action wouldn’t show in the assigned project without an assigned tag. (I can create an action in a project without a tag and it remains there, but that’s a different matter).
