Automation menu slow, spinning beachball

The Automation menu opens instantly, like any other, in OmniFocus, but in OmniOutliner, clicking on it gives a spinning beachball for about 10 seconds before it briefly pulls the menu down and it disappears before you can even read what’s on it.

Any idea what’s going on?

This is not the case on my system (OS 10.12, OO v5.3.4). You might want to contact support.
