Can I schedule for the Sunday before the 2nd Monday

Maybe I’m not thinking correctly, but I’m not sure how I would do this.

Our heavy trash day is the 2nd Monday of the month, so I have a repeating item on the 2nd Monday to put out heavy trash. Great. But I really need to be remembered on Sunday, and I have a defer date as the 2nd Sunday of the month.

But I’m a dummkopf, and it didn’t work this month because the 2nd Monday was the 8th. What I really need for my defer date is the day before the 2nd Monday. Is there a way to schedule this that I’m just overlooking?

I’ve been tinkering around a bit. In my opinion, there seems to be only one solution to the problem. You set the task to repeat on the second Monday of the month and add your own reminder message 24 hours before the trash collection day on Monday (i.e., on Sunday).
However, we have a municipal waste disposal company that always provides the dates for download as an ics-file on its website. This also ensures that deviations due to public holidays don’t mess everything up. (For example, the second Monday in your case would be Christmas Eve).

thanks for the idea. I’m not familiar with setting reminder messages, so I started looking through the documentation. I didn’t find anything about reminders, and perhaps you can point me to where you set that.

I also saw a reference to Planned Dates, which I’d like to use on lots of projects but I don’t see that in my list of fields available in the Inspector. Do you know where to access that field?

If you set up your repeat to be based on its Due Date (the 2nd Monday), rather than its Defer Date, I believe the repeat will behave the way you’re wanting.

I just tested this by entering an initial task with a Due Date of July 14, 2025. I set up the repetition to be based on that Due Date. Then I added a Defer date of July 13. Here’s a screenshot of the task:

Then I checked it off. Because the repetition was configured to repeat based on its assigned due date, the next repetition was scheduled with a due date of the 2nd Monday in August, i.e. August 11, 2025. The defer date was scheduled relative to that due date, i.e. the preceding Sunday (August 10).

I checked it off again. Again, because the repetition was configured to repeat based on its assigned due date, the next repetition was scheduled with a due date of the 2nd Monday in September, i.e. September 8, 2025. The defer date was again scheduled relative to that due date, the preceding Sunday (September 7). It didn’t matter that the defer date was the first Sunday in September, because that wasn’t the basis for the repeat.

Here’s a screenshot of the three items with their assigned dates:

I think that matches the behavior you were looking for? I hope this helps!
