Did the Tutorial - Confused - What Now

I am confused about automation. It seems like there is no basic documention for me to look at.

If anyone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

The tutorial uses JavaScript and the I see a lot of examples of Applescript.

Are both valid. What do I choose?

The css on the automation pages are very hard for me to read – giant type that never resizes when I rescale my browser text. Too bad.
