For the first time in a long time I am reorganizing my OmniFocus tags.
I find there are many that ended up being not as useful as I had hoped.
If a tag is set to Dropped and it either has no actions or all of its actions are Completed or Dropped, will the dropped tag get archived and no longer appear in the Tags perspective (even if Everything is selected)?
I had thought that tags which still had incomplete tasks with the tag wouldn’t be archived, but that tags with no remaining tasks would be available for archive. However, looking in my DB, I have tags that I dropped 2 years ago & have no associated tasks, but are still in my DB.
It’s counterintuitive and something I hope is rectified in a future release.
Right now, the only thing Archive deletes are archived tasks and projects [1], but it certainly seems reasonable for it to archive and delete dropped tags, particularly if they no longer apply to anything active. (They should already be getting copied to the archive if any tasks or projects which used those tags were archived. So the only missing piece is to remove them from the main database when they’re no longer needed.)
Mind you, there’s nothing magical about archiving an item. You can copy anything you like directly into the Archive database, and delete it from the main database yourself. But it is nice to have it figure out what needs archiving automatically.
Oh, and maybe empty dropped folders? I’d have to test or double check the code. ↩︎
