Grouping Perspectives

Hello,

I am a new user of Omnifocus and am slowly getting set up (it has been quite a learning curve!). One point of friction I have encountered is figuring out whether it is possible to group custom perspectives.

Here is a hypothetical example based on how I might set this up in Apple Reminders. I can mark some tasks as High Priority, others as Medium, and others as Low. I can then create smart lists for high-priority tasks due today, medium-priority tasks due today, and so on. After that, I can place these three smart lists in a single folder so they appear one below another.

If these smart lists are equivalent to custom perspectives in OF, it would be ideal to group them into a folder and view them together (rather than loading each custom perspective individually).

In short, I would appreciate any advice or workaround that would allow me to view multiple custom perspectives at the same time.

Thanks!

Your best bet might be using tags, and to make a perspective that’s sorted and grouped by tags.

Using your example:

Which gets you:

That assumes you can come up with perspective rules your group of smart lists have in common. It’s going to be hard to group together lists that have nothing to do with each other, but others might have ideas.

I would just add to @michael2’s suggestion (because he hasn’t mentioned it explicitly) that mutually exclusive tags have been added to OF very recently (v4.7 I think) and this looks to be a good scenario for their use if, as I suspect, you want your priority assignments to be mutually exclusive.

Thank you both - very helpful. I’ll give it a shot and see how it goes.
