Has anyone triggered a notification for a task or a context when navigating a website?

Hello,

I’d like to be notified of tasks in a certain context/tag when navigating a web site and I wonder if and how this is feasible. It’s similar to having a tag attached to a location on iOS, but this time when navigating a web site. I’m targetting the Mac for this though because I’m pretty sure it’s not feasible on iOS.

Has anyone built something similar?

To understand with more clarity:

On your Mac,

You would like to tag certain OmniFocus tasks and projects with a URL string similar to “https://site.com”,

When you happen to visit a URL matching one of your OmniFocus tags, you get a macOS notification.

More clarifying questions:

  • What browser do you expect this work in?
  • Will you have tasks and projects with multiple “website tags”?
  • Do you expect to click on the notification and be taken to the matching task or project?

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

You would like to tag certain OmniFocus tasks and projects with a URL string similar to “https://site.com”,

Yes, this would probably be the most straightforward way of doing it.
At first, I thought about having a tag named after the Web site, like “Site”, then having something that knows this tag is linked to a web site. But maybe the first implementation could be having a tag formatted like a URL.

What browser do you expect this work in?

My main browser is Firefox, but I can consider using another browser if there is a solution.

Will you have tasks and projects with multiple “website tags”?

I don’t have this need.

Do you expect to click on the notification and be taken to the matching task or project?

Ideally yes. But again, if there is a possible implementation and if it involves just showing a notification, that’s ok.
