I’m running OmniFocus 4.5.1 on a Mac with Sequoia 15.2 and am unsure what the highlighted days mean. I’ve tried comparing the tasks for each day and can’t see any obvious reason why the highlighted days are different. I currently have 3 purple days. I’ve looked in the documentation but the section that mentions the “piano keys” doesn’t help. Can anyone explain?
I’m not sure I understand what purple highlight you’re referencing. A screenshot might be helpful!
When you click on a day in Forecast, it selects that day and highlights it so that you know which day it’s displaying. If you select multiple days (e.g. by drag-selecting a range of days in the sidebar), it will highlight multiple days. That highlight looks like this:
But this highlight isn’t purple, so I’m guessing that’s not what you’re talking about.
Oh! Maybe you’re talking about the keyboard focus ring? On my system that’s the default blue, but if I go to System Settings > Appearance and choose purple as my Accent color, it looks like this:
That focus ring is for navigating controls using the keyboard using the Tab key. If you’re navigating your window via the keyboard pressing Tab, you can end up moving your focus to the piano keys at the top of Forecast. You can use Tab or Shift-Tab shift focus to a different day (highlighting that day), then press Space to select that day so its contents are displayed. If you click elsewhere in the window (or use a shortcut like Option-Command-2 to choose Go to Outline from the View menu), the keyboard will no longer be focused on those “piano keys” on this highlight will go away.
Hope this helps, but maybe I’m completely misunderstanding what you’re asking about. If you have a different highlight in mind, a screenshot might be helpful!
Of course foolishly I forgot to take a screenshot, and now the highlighted days are no longer highlighted – I just walked away from the computer for a while and when I came back they were gone.
My guess is that it’s just a harmless bug, maybe related to draging in the sidebar, though the days didn’t unhighlight when I clicked on other days.
In the system settings my accent colour is Multicolour.
If the effect reappears I’ll document it properly.
Thanks for your response.
Oh! Someone else just reported a bug with the drop highlight when dragging a task to a different day, where the drop highlight gets stuck. I’m guessing this is what you were seeing:
This seems like a recent regression: if it had been there for long, I have to think I would have heard of it before. We’ll track it down!
Had that yesterday. The days all seem to be selected. Workaround was to unselect.
That’s what I saw.
- Open Forecast.
- Drag an item from Past to Today and some following days.
- The days all highlight.
- Drag all the past items to Today and Today unhighlights.
- Add a new item to Past and drag and drop it onto a highlighted day and it unhighlights.
- Repeat 5 until all days are unhighlighted.
