How do I move items from my inbox on OmniFocus into the assigned project folders?

The Problem

How do I move items from my inbox on OmniFocus into the assigned project folders? I’m triaging my inbox on macOS 15.6 OF v4.6, and I have cleanup configured to cleanup “when switching perspectives”.

Things that I’ve tried

Based on the Web searches that I’ve done, at least one of these should have removed the item(s) assigned to other projects from my Inbox, but they did not work.

  • Switch to Forcast perspective and back to Inbox
  • cmd + k
  • Quit and re-launch OF

Ideas?

What else can I try? I’m going to have to leave my Mac for a while since I’m leaving home to get to work in a few mins, but I’ll read any ideas when I get back.

I’ll try rebooting my Macbook then, too.

I recommend checking the “Clean up inbox items which have” setting in Settings > Organization. For example, if it’s set to “Both a project and a tag”, items will remain in the inbox until both the Project and Tag field are populated.

Ding ding ding! It was set to “Both a project and a tag” and I was only adding projects.

In my defense, I left OF for over a year to try using only Apple Reminders, and I came back to OF last week.

I didn’t delete anything, I just stopped using it for a year or so, and I forgot a lot of how I had it set up. As I’m cleaning it up, I noticing quite a few organization decisions that I no long agree with. ie. “why did I do that? That doesn’t make any sense!”
