After few years of GTD I joined OmniFocus almost tow months ago and I’m using it to manage all my actions. I have been using OmniFocus to manage content for multiple social media channels, and I truly appreciate the flexibility the app offers. However, I’ve encountered a challenge with maintaining the order of tasks across multiple tag-based lists, which has made my workflow more difficult to manage.
My Use Case:
I manage posts for three private social media channels. Each post can appear in more than one channel, so I use tags to represent the channels (e.g., “Channel 1,” “Channel 2,” “Channel 3”).
• I’ve created a custom perspective using a parent tag (e.g., “Channels”) that contains all the sub-tags for the channels.
• The perspective shows a unified list of all tasks, and when I filter by a specific sub-tag (e.g., “Channel 1”), it simply “hides” tasks without that sub-tag.
• This setup allows me to focus on one channel’s posts while still maintaining an overall global view of all my posts.
Expected Behavior:
In this perspective, I want to:
-
Reorder tasks in the global list (parent-tag perspective).
-
Reorder tasks within a filtered view (e.g., “Channel 1”), with the updated order propagating consistently across all related views (The views withing the same perspective: the global list and the filtered sub-tag views).
For about a week, this setup worked perfectly. I was able to reorder tasks freely, and the updates were reflected accurately across the global and filtered views. This functionality provided a seamless way to manage the post order in each channel while maintaining clarity on the global workflow.
The Issue:
Recently, this behavior broke:
• Reordering tasks in one filtered view now disrupts the sequence in other views, leading to inconsistencies in task order.
• The order disruption is very chaotic and doesn’t seem to have much sense behind it.
• This makes it difficult to ensure clarity in both the global workflow and the individual channel views.
Suggested Solution:
I believe the current perspective setup should inherently support this functionality, but it may require adjustment. Specifically:
Manual order with in a tag-based perspective should be preserved consistently, whether the perspective is filtered by tags or shows the parent tag.
Any ideas as to what broke? Do you believe the setup I tried should work? Should I write to OmniFocus anywhere else? Any other solution to achieve what I’m seeking in OF? I would appreciate any help with this as it is crucial for my creation process.
