It used to be that you could double tap the line to add a midpoint. Now it adds a label. The documentation says to use double. It seems the functionality has been remove from version 2.
To add a midpoint, you must be in line drawing mode. Tap the Draw item in the toolbar, then select the Line tool. Double-tapping a line will now add a midpoint instead of a label.
