Is it possible to merge redundant projects including completed actions?

I mistakenly created projects with the same name and purpose in 2 different folders , and I want to merge them so that both current tasks and archived tasks are present in the new, merged project.

Is there a way to do this? I can drag active actions from one to the other, but I’m concerned that when I delete one of them , the archived actions will also be deleted.

The application may ask me to relocate archived actions, but I’m not sure that is what it will do.

What do you mean by “archived” here? There is a process in OF for moving long-completed tasks (across all projects) out of your OF database into an external archive. If that’s what you’re referring to then they are no longer in your active database and will be absent from the projects you want to merge. Do you just mean completed and no longer visible in “available” or “remaining” views?

Either way I think you’ll be fine. Tasks are identified by unique ids (there’s no requirement to have unique names) and will comfortably sit alongside each other once merged. But you could test this to be sure by duplicating the projects first and merging the duplicates (dragging contents of one into the other) and/or creating a backup before merging

Archived in this case, means completed and not visible without “view all”.

That’s what I surmised. As I say, you can do a dry run with duplicate “test” projects but unless I’ve misunderstood what you’re wanting to achieve I think you’ll be fine dragging all items in project A2 into project A1 and then reviewing

I agree with @robforsyth. To expand just a bit, I would open the Projects perspective, set the View options to show “Everything” so that completed actions are visible, then drag all items from the duplicate project to the one you want to keep.

If you have used OmniFocus’s File > Archive Old Items… command, it’s a bit more complicated, but you can use File > Open Archive and then drag archived tasks to the correct project.
