macOS 11 Big Sur beta crashes

Anyone have any workarounds to make Omnifocus work on Mac OS 11 ? after launching and clicking continue it immediately crashes.

If you’re using OF 3 on macOS, you’ll need at least 10.14: https://www.omnigroup.com/omnifocus/compare/

Since 10.11 is pretty old anyway, it might be a good idea to consider upgrading. Good luck!

Hi :) I am not talking about 10.11, but OS 11 AKA Big Sur. :) I am sure I’m not the only dev out there who is already checking out the beta.

Your best bet, I would have thought, is to check directly with the Omni Group - since, as you say, macOS 11 is not officially released yet.

Omni is always ahead of the game, but a quick search doesn’t find any evidence that OF 3 has been certified for that next big OS upgrade (my apologies for not reading what you wrote carefully enough) yet. Good luck!

No but I did find a workaround thanks to the great support :)

Copy the file from your iPhone onto the desktop as there is only a problem during onboarding not once the app is up and running.

This is what I got from support :) (it worked)

Open the Files app on one of your iOS devices.
Go to On My iPad/On My iPhone.
Go to the OmniFocus folder.
You should see a file titled just “OmniFocus” or “OmniFocus.ofocus”.
Tap and hold on this file.
In the contextual menu that appears, tap Share.
Share this file to your Mac (for instance Airdrop it or emailing it to yourself).
Open a Finder window on your Mac.
Choose Go > Go to Folder… in the menu bar.
Paste in this path:

~/Library/Containers/com.omnigroup.OmniFocus3/Data/Library/Application Support/OmniFocus

Move the “OmniFocus.ofocus” file from your iOS device into this folder.
Now try launching OmniFocus.

An addendum to those instructions:

The folder path you need to use in Step 10 will depend on where you downloaded OmniFocus from. If you downloaded the app from the Mac App Store, then you will need to use this path:

~/Library/Containers/com.omnigroup.OmniFocus3.MacAppStore/Data/Library/Application Support/OmniFocus/

These steps can also be amended if you have OmniFocus on another Mac or otherwise have access to an existing .ofocus or .ofocus-backup database file. You just need to titled the database file that you have OmniFocus.ofocus and place it into the corresponding folder as specified above.

This works for the Omni Store version, not Apple’s App Store version.

it was worked with the version downloaded from the website… not working with the version of App Store.
