Making great print-outs

I am trying to come up with a good way to make attractive print-outs or PDFs for presentations, etc.

Realistically, I would be using colored paper if I wanted a colored background for a print, but I’m trying to come up with ways to make the pdf look good so I could post that online/send to people, and then just change text/background colors for printing. By default, printing to pdf leaves unsightly margins on the file

By just changing the margins in OO’s printing dialogs, it feels a bit stretched, would there be any way for me to offset the start of the lines so the background effectively fills to the edge without bringing the text with it?
