Hey OmniFocus community,
I wanted to share something that’s been a real game-changer for me, and I thought some of you might find it useful too.
Like many of you, I’ve been an OmniFocus user for a while. I absolutely love the power and flexibility it offers. But, if I’m being honest, there were times when the process of capturing and organizing tasks became a bit… overwhelming. Life gets busy, and suddenly, my inbox was overflowing, projects were languishing, and I found myself drifting away from OmniFocus altogether.
I missed the structure and clarity OmniFocus brought to my day, but the friction of manually entering tasks was a real barrier. That’s when I decided to see if I could find a solution.
After some tinkering, I’ve created a script that lets me capture tasks using my voice. It’s called “whisper-to-omnifocus,” and you can find it on GitHub here: https://github.com/TeldridgeLDN/whisper-to-omnifocus
Essentially, it uses speech recognition to turn my spoken words into OmniFocus tasks. But here’s the best part: I can also specify tags, projects, and actions directly with my voice!
For example, I can say something like: “Call the dentist, tag: health, project: personal, due today.” And it’s in OmniFocus, perfectly organized.
This script has completely revitalized my relationship with OmniFocus. It’s removed the friction of manual entry, allowing me to capture tasks on the fly, wherever I am. It’s brought back the joy of seeing my tasks neatly organized, and it’s helped me stay on top of things without feeling overwhelmed.
If you’ve ever struggled with task capture or if you’re looking for a faster, more intuitive way to use OmniFocus, I encourage you to give it a try. I’ve included detailed instructions in the README on GitHub, so you should be able to get up and running quickly.
I’m really excited to share this with you all, and I hope it helps someone else re-engage with OmniFocus like it did for me. If you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
