Mouse cursor doesn't turn back to an arrow

Hi all. Is anyone else seeing this in OmniFocus 4 on the mac? After I double-click a task in the Outline to edit it, the mouse cursor changes to the regular text area ‘I’ then stays that way while it is over the Outline region, even after I finish editing. It only goes back to the normal arrow if I move the cursor outside the Outline and back in.

This has been happening for ages and is frustrating as I’m not sure where I’m clicking, and it breaks flow. Support didn’t answer about this. Maybe it’s only on my mac?

Yes same here. Also, the cursor is often stuck on the “<|>” resize icon from mousing over the sidebar divider.

Same here (OF 4.8.8 on a 14-inch M2 MacBook Pro running MacOS Sequoia 15.7.3). To be honest, though, I hadn’t noticed it until you pointed it out.

omg, it drives me nuts having to move the cursor out and back omnifocus’ window dozens of times a day! And it got worse: now it doesn’t go back to the arrow when moving outside of the outline. I need to move it outside of Omnifocus entirely.

Have you reported it to Omni (Help > Contact Omni)? They don’t go through these forums systematically.

Yes, I did. Twice. The first time, before OF4 was launched (OF3). Last October, again (OF4). They acknowledged the issue, but it’s not solved yet. Got even worse after that. I posted on the forums to try finding out if it’s something happening for many users or just me.

I just reported it, too. It can’t hurt!

I use OmniFocus on my Mac or MacBook every day. Thanks for bringing this issue to my attention. After editing, I always unconsciously clicked somewhere else with the mouse and never encountered the problem described here. Now you’ve created one for me. Damn! 😜

I’m in the same boat—I use OF nearly every day, and I hadn’t noticed this bug at all. I did get an acknowledgement of my bug report, so if you haven’t reported it, perhaps doing so would bump it higher up in their queue of bugs to fix.

Hello,

I’m sorry for the frustration here! Unfortunately this is not currently being worked on. This bug has been in our system since January of 2024 and has a total of 5 people that have reported it to be an issue for them. For more details on how we chose what we should focus our time on, this article is pretty helpful: https://support.omnigroup.com/what-happens-to-my-feature-request/

I hope that helps. If you have any other questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We really appreciate your support!

Sincerely,
