Noob questions about OmniFocus v3 -> v4 transition

Good day, all. I apologize for intruding on all you OmniFocus veterans and experts with my noob questions. But I have a lot of data, don’t want to lose it, and need to know these things first before I transition to OmniFocus.

I currently have OmniFocus Pro v3 installed. In it, I have 373 open projects with a total of 2,690 subtasks. (There’s also 27 rogue, loose tasks running around loose.)

My current project/task app that I’ve used for several years (2Do) appears to have fallen off the App Store. So I’m faced with going back to OmniFocus and migrating all that data.

My questions:

  • Can v3 and v4 co-exist on the same computer?
  • Or do I have to uninstall v3 first?
  • Will my v3 data (projects, tasks, & tags) be automatically seen by v4?
  • Or is there an import or migration process?
  • Will my custom perspectives be automatically migrated?
  • How much will OmniFocus 4 Pro cost me, $74.99 or $37.49?

Thank you all in advance, very much.

There are certainly better experts than me, but here‘s what I remember.

Co-existance: They can on iPad and iPad. I have no Mac, but would assume they can.

v3 data automatically seen: Yes

Migration: There were functionalities added that required a data migration. Then there would be no return. However, if you don‘t migrate it should work. You‘d just not have some new features. I hope that hasn‘t changed.

Perspectives: Yes

Cost: Depends on where you live. From Germany I cannot tell.

Ok if you have an existing OF license then the upgrade price is 50% I presume that’s standard in any location.

more importantly while you can import data, I would suggest you review what you have in there before importing. I seriously doubt anyone can meaningfully manage that many open projects and tasks, cull them , export them to an external app like taskpaper or Omnioutliner but get a grip on what actually is relevant

In order

No

There may be a database upgrade but should maintain ability to use v3 and V4

Yes

50%

Thanks for the support and suggestions.

Because of a missing piece of data on my part, I could not use my old account. I was able to import from the OF3 database (saving my many tags), but was not able to synchronize. I created a new OF account, replaced the server data with the data in the database, and now I can synch across devices.

Now the tedious work of migrating my current data from 2Do to OmniFocus. Most of that will be copy-and-paste, tweaking the metadata of individual tasks.

Thanks, all, for the help.
