Omnifocus - Export Daily Completed Tasks To Daily Log On Obsidian (Apple Shortcuts)

Hello.

Really wanting to get into Omnifocus as my daily task manager. Main issue i have is once a task is completed - it’s only available until i archive my OF data - however, i would like to have a daily journal of completed tasks. At the moment and for a long time now, i am manually updating a daily log book alongside ticking action off in Omnifocus. But it’s 2026. I need to try automate this.

In Omnifocus we have the built in perspective “Completed” - which shows everything that has been completed that exists in the database. Great.

I have x2 custom perspectives which she me the tasks completed today - one for work, and one for personal - depending on which folder the task was in. That output is different from yesterday and will be different again tomorrow. I want a snapshot of today’s tasks - and copy them to a daily journal on Obsidian.

Would ideally like - Complete Time, Task and Project completed on my log.

Tried copy and pasting from my OF custom perspective into Obsidian. Ok, works - but only gives me the title of each completed task hyperlinked back to OF. So if and when OF data is archived, that link will break.

Tried copy and pasting from OF perspective “As Taskpaper” into Obsidian. Now I’ve got all the data but the formatting is unreadable, and contains all the tags, and other attributes. Can be manually tided up by but takes time each night. Does show task completion time but not the project.

So - revisiting this and perhaps Apple Shortcuts is the way. Broken down into steps.

  1. Export today’s completed tasks on OF
  2. Tidy up the formatting
  3. Input into Obsidian a daily log.

My first hurdle is using Apple Shortcuts to display the completed tasks today….

“Find Items” is now legacy, and Apple Shortcuts advises to use “Find Actions”

Fine. So Find Actions where All of the following are true:

  • Availability is Completed
  • Completed Date (including inherited) is after Current Date

And there lies problem 1. I can have Completed Date “Is Before” or “Is After” But Not “Is” - i.e. matches today’s date….

How on earth do i display today’s completed tasks and completed Time / Project Name in Apple Shortcuts?

Help…

Failing that - an export function in OF from a custom perspective?
