@kcase 6+ months later and it pains me how stubborn OF is.
All it should be (IMHO) is:
- A database of actions with metadata (groups, projects, etc.) I can query whichever way and
- A beautiful UI to display them which I can script whichever way.
Why can’t I build a “Today” perspective that:
- First lists all flagged tasks ordered by project hierarchy
- Then all tasks that are tagged as “waiting”
- Then all tasks that are tagged “today” (don’t duplicate tasks already shown in 2 above)
- Then all tasks that are tagged “read” or “watch” or “listen”, sorted by estimated duration
- Then all tasks I want to do after 3p today
- Then things I want to talk to the wife about at night
- Show a nice heading for each group (beautifully designed to match the rest of the beautiful design) with labels x, y, … and let me edit them later
That’s a totally reasonable perspective, yet there is no way to do that in OF. Not sure why. Maybe because Allen doesn’t talk about it? (Headings is one of the top features why people like Things, btw.)
After using OF since v1 (10+ years) I’d say: Free OF from the GTD cult, make it the market leader!
