I use the quick open feature dozens of times a day in OF4. I love it. All my projects have a project code or string I use to search quickly when I want to see the actions for a particular project.
However, when I close a project, those projects no longer show up in the quick open field. I can do an “Everything” search to find them, but because they are project codes they show up in LOTS of notes for actions. I frequently need to refer to actions or notes but I can’t find what I’m looking for quickly because they don’t show up in Quick Open.
Am I missing something? Is there a feature request I can’t find to let Quick Open work with closed projects too? This is HUGE in my workflow, so much so that I’m considering re-opening all my projects which seems counterintuitive. Help!
So you‘d look for a plugin that allows you to search projects (only?) including completed ones. You’d check the one you want or if there’s just a single result you’d do what with it? Display it in Projects perspective with its actions?
How exact do you perform a search? OF Search and Quick Open perform a search engine based search narrowing down approximate matches. Do you know the exact search term or do you know your identifier just roughly?
There‘s a risk it wont be possible to display a completed project if e.g. Project perspective isn’t set to all (not just available or remaining).
Just trying to figure out possible solution options.
Good suggestions from Logan, and this is something to take into account.
If I were in your shoes, Mike1, I would personally look into building an Alfred Workflow using OmniAutomation in order to search projects which are either Completed or Dropped. That’s probably the ideal tool for the purposes of emulating Quick Open, I think.
I’ve ensured the view is “Everything” when using Quick Open. It still doesn’t find anything. And yes I know what I’m searching for, it is the project number in the title of the project. Again, it works perfectly on open or on hold projects, just not completed or dropped. I actually change a completed project to open, and the search works. Then I mark it completed again, and it doesn’t come up in quick open. I understand I can do some automation, I was just hoping Omni would consider having an option in Quick Open to “include all projects” or something. I have so much history/information/notes in recently completed projects I might need to reference, and quick open is so efficient it is perfect. Thanks for the ideas.
What I meant is if an plugin is used, it could be not possible to view the completed project if view options aren‘t set to all. This does not have any influence on how Quick Open behaves.
