Quickly applying color/style to selected text in OmniOutliner

Hi folks,

Coming back to OmniOutliner after a while, and … it’s simple and awesome at what it does.

One thing I keep doing is adding color to words or phrases within text, and the current way I’m doing this is:

  • select text
  • bring up inspector
  • select color in the dropdown

I’d like to be able to bind a keyboard shortcut (e.g. Ctrl+Cmd+2 to “apply green”, or “apply red”, etc), what’s the best way to do this?

Thanks,
Agam

You can do this with Saved Styles.

Open the sidebar, and click on the Styles tab. In the second section, you’ll see all the default Saved Styles (“Heading 1”, “Highlight:Yellow”, “Purple”, etc.) The first ten of them have hotkeys that will invoke them.

If you click on any of them, you can change its attributes in the Inspector. Then right-click on the Saved Style and change the name (if you like).

One caveat: I wasn’t able to get this to work with function-keys. So I went into OO Preferences/Keyboard and changed “Apply Named Styles with” from Function Keys to Control+number.
