Synced changes are not shown until I force quit the app and reboot (iOS, iPadOS only)

Wondering if anyone else has had this experience? I wrote to Omni Group with ticket [OG #3026145].

In 4.5.3 Pro (v180.6.0) - and before this version, too - synced changes are not shown until I force quit the app. I have found this to be true only on the iPhone and the iPad.

Drag the screen down with finger to force a sync.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t work. That was actually the first thing that I tried. Thanks anyway!

Could the problem be that you haven’t enabled the push setting? Everything works perfectly for me. I just did a test and entered a task in Omnifocus 3 on my iPad. On the second iPad with Omnifocus 4, the task appeared within five seconds after I swiped down.

No, unfortunately that is not the case. 😔 I am a 13-year user of OmniFocus, and have explored all of the settings, but it’s a bug. I have reported it to the Omni Group. Has happened months ago, too. I have deleted the iOS and iPadOS apps, restarted the devices, and reinstalled. Seems to fix it.

I’m not having any sync problems either, so if it’s a bug it likely to be something specific to your setup.

Have you changed anything recently which may affect OF?

Nothing has changed, no. It’s that the interface isn’t presenting synced changes. Once I quit the app completely and restart, the task changes are immediately there. No wait for sync required. This tells me that indeed the sync happens but that OmniFocus 4, with its SwiftUI bugs, is not representing the changes sometimes until I take such a drastic action.

Now that I’m thinking about it…I have OmniFocus sync changes 1 second after they’re completed. I use this link to do so: omnifocus:///change-preference?DelayBeforePushingLocalEdits=1

I might go back to 3 seconds after change, to see if that helps: omnifocus:///change-preference?DelayBeforePushingLocalEdits=3

Sync is always annoyingly lagging for me. Most times it’s like this: I complete tasks on my iPhone during the day. In the evening I come back to my MacBook and the changes aren’t there yet. I start syncing manually and wait, thinking it didn’t work. But after a few minutes the changes finally do appear.
Maybe you don’t even need to reboot your application, maybe you just didn’t wait long enough.
Of course, it shouldn’t take so long in the first place.

You are not alone with this issue. I have previously logged it with support and they have acknowledged the issue. It apparently only impacts some people.

I’ve received a support response last evening! It’s on their radar, as The Omni Group is trying to solve it. Knowing the level of commitment of this team, they’ll find and squash this bug sooner or later.
