Tint-able custom icons?

On the Mac, we can upload our own icons for custom perspectives. However, they are not tint-able (we can’t color them via the UI color picker like the built-in icons).

  • It seems custom icons must be PNGs. Is there a format that makes them tint-able by OF, just like the built-in icons?
  • Alternatively, is there a way to add to the built-in icons?

For me, the colorful variety of icons in Josh Hughes’ templates is the solution https://omnifocusicons.josh-hughes.com I have been using this variety of symbols for years and can use them to group my many self-created perspectives by color.

Yes they are great but unfortunately need to be downloaded new every time the color changes. Hence my question whether there is a file format (Icon? Alpha-only, single-channel PNG?) that OmniFocus would treat as a tint-able icon, like the built-in icons. I can choose a built-in icon and change the color as often as I want. (Unfortunately, I don’t find the built-in icons useful.)
