As much as universal pricing is great if you buy into the whole apple eco system, it doesn’t appear so good if you’re only using an app on a single platform. If an app would price at £30 for macOS and it’s then also developed for iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and now visionPro, the app may well cost £120. This seems to indicate that unless you’re into every platform, the return of investment is not great?
That’s certainly a reasonable concern in the abstract! And it is true that if you’re only using our apps on a single platform, you’re not getting as much value from them as if you use them on every available platform.
But let’s take a look at how we’ve actually priced our universal apps.
Our first app to introduce universal pricing was OmniPlan, in version 4:
- OmniPlan 3 Pro for Mac: $400
- OmniPlan 4 Pro for Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro: $400
Our second app to introduce universal pricing was OmniFocus, now also in version 4:
- OmniFocus 3 Pro for Mac: $100
- OmniFocus 4 Pro for Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro: $150
I hope you’ll find that our universal apps offer a lot more value, but are still priced quite reasonably!
Many thanks for your response.
