even worse then in OF3 now OF4 wastes even more space between the columns. I was hoping this getting better now or did I miss a way to configure this ?

Can you elaborate on how you have things set up now? Are you using the fluid layout (which is the default on new installs) or a custom column layout?
I not using the fluid but the column layout with the basic columns like project, tag, start and due date. When I resize the window the topic column get smaller just to preserve lot of whitespace between the columns. F.e. the project column is far to big even when I choose the longes project name.
That’s not really different behavior to OF3 but it got slightly worse.
